| Instead find heroes who make it look easyTEACH AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE: The power of giving Both of my dads were teachersMy rich dad taught me a lesson I have carried all my life, and that was the necessity of being charitable or givingMy educated dad gave a lot by the way of time and knowledge, but almost never gave away money As I said, he usually said that he would give when he had some extra moneyOf course, there was rarely any extra
My rich dad gave money as well as educationHe believed firmly in tithing"If you want something, you first need to give," he would always sayWhen he was short of money, he simply gave money to his church or to his favorite charity
If I could leave one single idea with you, it is that ideaWhenever you feel "short" or in "need" of something, give what you want black chanel quilted first and it will come back in bucketsThat is true for money, a smile, love, friendshipI know it is often the last thing a person may want to do, but; it has always worked for meI just trust that the principle of reciprocity it is true, and I give what I wantI want money, so I give money, and it comes back in multiplesI want sales, so I help someone else sell something, and sales come to meI want contacts and I help someone else get contacts, and like magic, contacts come to meI heard a saying years ago that went, "God does not need to receive, but humans need to give
My rich dad would often say, "Poor people are more greedy than rich people He would explain that if a person was rich, that person was providing something that other people wantedIn my life, over all these ; years, whenever I sac chloe have felt needy or short of money or short of help, I simply went out or found in my heart what I wanted, and decided to give it firstAnd when I gave, it always came back
It reminds me of the story of the guy sitting with firewood in his arms on a cold freezing night, and he is yelling at the pot-bellied stove, "When you give me some heat, then I'll put some wood in And when it comes to money, love, happiness, sales and contacts, all one needs to remember is first to give what you want and it will come back in droves ? Often just the process of thinking of what I want, and how could I give what I want to someone else, breaks free a torrent of bountyWhenever I feel that people aren't smiling at me, I simply begin smiling and saying hello, and like magic, there are suddenly more smiling chanel bags pink people around meIt is true that your world is only a mirror of you
So that's why I say, "Teach and you shall receive I have found that the more I sincerely teach those who want to learn, the more I learnIf you want to learn about money, teach it to someone elseA torrent of new ideas and finer distinctions will come in
There are times when I have given and nothing has come back or what I have received is not what I wanted But upon closer inspection and soul searching, I was often giving to receive in those instances, instead of giving to give
My dad taught teachers, and he became a master teacher My rich dad always taught young people his way of doing businessIn retrospect, it was their generosity with what they knew that made them smarterThere are powers in this world that are much smarter than dior rasta bag we areYou can get there on your own, but it's easier with the help of the powers that beAll you need to be is generous with what you have, and the powers will be generous with you

Still Want More? Here are Some To Do's
Many people may not be satisfied with my ten stepsThey see them more as philosophies than actionsI think understanding the philosophy is just as important as the actionThere are many people who want to do, instead of think, and then there are people who think but do not doI would say that I am bothI love new ideas and I love action
So for those who want "to dos" on how to get started, I will share with you some of the things I do, in abbreviated form

|
| In fact, if you really want to be confused, look up the words "asset" and "liability" in the dictionaryI know the definition may sound good to a trained accountant, but for the average person it makes no senseBut we adults are often too proud to admit that something does not make sense
As young boys, rich dad said, "What defines an asset is not words but numbersAnd if you cannot read the numbers, you cannot tell an asset from a hole in the ground
"In accounting," rich dad would say, "it's not the numbers, but what the numbers are telling youIt's just like wordsIt's not the words, but the story the words are telling you
Many people read, but do not understand muchIt's called reading tiffany jewelry canada comprehensionAnd we all have different abilities when it comes to reading comprehensionFor example, I recently bought a new VCRIt came with an instruction book that explained how to program the VCRAll I wanted to do was record my favorite TV show on Friday nightI nearly went crazy trying to read the manualNothing in my world is more complex than learning how to program my VCRI could read the words, but I understood nothingI get an "A" for recognizing the wordsI get an "F" for comprehensionAnd so it is with financial statements for most people
"If you want to be rich, you've got to read and understand numbers If I heard that once, I heard it a thousand times from my rich dadAnd I also heard, "The chanel jumbo bag rich acquire assets and the poor and middle class acquire liabilities
Here is how to tell the difference between an asset and a liabilityMost accountants and financial professionals do net agree with the definitions, but these simple drawings were the start of strong financial foundations for two young boys
To teach pre?teen boys, rich dad kept everything simple, using as many pictures as possible, as few words as possible, and no numbers for years
"This is the Cash Flow pattern of an asset
The above box is an Income Statement, often called a Profit and Loss StatementIt measures income and expensesMoney in and money outThe bottom diagram is the Balance SheetIt is called that because le dix balenciaga it is
supposed to balance assets against liabilitiesMany financial novices don't know the relationship between the Income Statement and the Balance SheetThat relationship is vital to understand
The primary cause of financial struggle is simply not knowing the difference between an asset and a liabilityThe cause of the confusion is found in the definition of the two wordsIf you want a lesson in confusion, simply look up the words "asset" and "liability" in the dictionary
Now it may make sense to trained accountants, but to the average person, it may as well be written in MandarinYou read the words in the definition, but true comprehension is difficult
So as I said earlier, my rich dad simply replica pasha cartier told two young boys that "assets put money in your pocket Nice, simple and usable
"This is Cash Flow pattern of a liability
Now that assets and liabilities have been defined through pictures, it may be easier to understand my definitions in words
An asset is something that puts money in my pocket
A liability is something that takes money out of my pocket
This is really all you need to knowIf you want to be rich, simply spend your life buying assetsIf you want to be poor or middle class, spend your life buying liabilitiesIt's not knowing the difference that causes most of the financial struggle in the real world
Illiteracy, both in words and numbers, is the foundation of financial vintage chanel jewelry strugg |

The mayor turned to look for the bellThis was
the moment when Lina had planned to make a dash
for freedom--she thought she had a slim chance to
succeed if she moved fast enough--but something
happened in that instant that gave her a head start
There was no flicker this time, just sudden, complete
darknessIt was fortunate that Lina had already
planned her move and knew exactly which way to go
She leapt up, knocking over her chairWith her arm,
she made a wide swipe and knocked over the table next
to the chair as wellThe furniture thumping to the
floor, the teapot shattering, and the mayor's enraged
shouts made a clamor that covered the sound of her
footsteps as she dashed to the stairway doorWas it
unlocked? She reached for the gucci watches for women knobGrunts and
squeaks told her that the mayor was struggling to rise
from his chairShe turned the knob and pulled, and
the door sprang openShe closed the door behind her
and leapt upward two steps at a timeEven in the pitch
dark, she could climb stairsIn the room, the bell
clanged and clanged, and the mayor bellowed
When she got to the first landing, she heard the
219
guards shoutingThere was a crash--someone must
have fallen over the toppled chair or table"Where is
she?" someone yelled"Must have run out the door!"
Did they know which door? She didn't hear footsteps
behind her
If she could make it to the roof--and if from the
roof she could jump to the roof of the Prison Room
and from there to the street--then maybe she could
escapeHer lungs were on fire now, her breath was
burning her throat, but she rolex watches for women climbed without stopping,
and when she came to the top, she burst through the
door to the roof and ran out
And that was when the lights came back onIt was
as if the blackout had been arranged especially for her
I am so lucky, she thought, so extremely lucky! Ahead
of her was the clock towerShe went around to the
other side of itNo dancing on the roof this time
A low wall ran along the edge of the buildingLina
approached it cautiously and peered out over the
swarm of people assembling in Harken Square
Directly below her was the entrance of the Gathering
Hall, and as she watched, two guards dashed out the
door and down the stepsGood--they had gone the
wrong way! They must think she'd escaped into
the crowdFor the moment, she was safeThe clock in
the tower began to chimeThree great booms rang out
It was time for the new omega watches Singing to begin
Lina gazed down at the people of Ember, gathered

to sing their songsThey stood so close together that
she could see only their faces, which were lifted up
toward the sky, with the hard bright lights shining
down on themThey were silent, waiting for the Songmaster to appear on the Gathering Hall stepsThere
was a strange hush, as if the city were holding its
breathOf the whole Ember year, Lina thought, this
hush before the Singing was one of the most exciting
momentsShe remembered other years, when she had
stood with her parents, too short to see the Songmaster's signal, too short to see anything but people's
backs and legs, and waited for the first note to thunder
outShe felt her heart move at that moment, every
yearThe sound would rise in waves around her like
water, almost as if it could hermes vintage lift her off the ground
Now suddenly the moment came againFrom
hundreds of voices rose the first notes of "The Song of
the City," deep and strongShe felt as she had all the
years before: a quivering inside, as though a string
under her ribs had been plucked, and a rush of joy and
sadness mixed togetherThe deep, rumbling chords of
the song filled Harken SquareLina felt that she might
step off the edge of the building and walk across the
air, it seemed so solid with sound
"The Song of the City" was long--there were
verses about "streets of light and walls of stone," about
"citizens with sturdy hearts," about "stored abundance
never-ending (Not true, Lina thought But at last,

"The Song of the City" wound down to its endThe
singers held the final note, which grew softer and

CHAPTER 5
On Knight Street
Granny's mind was getting more and more muddled
Lina would come home in the evenings and find her
rifling through the kitchen cupboards, surrounded by
cans and jars with their lids off, or tearing the covers
off her bed and trying to lift up the mattress with her
skinny arms"It was an important thing," she would
say, "the thing that was lost
"But if you don't know what it was," said Lina,
"how will you know when you've found it?"
Granny didn't try to answer this questionShe just
flapped her hands at Lina and said, "Never mind, never
mind, never mind," and kept on searchingMurdo spent a great deal of time
sitting by their window rather than her ownShe
would tell Granny she was just coming to keep her
company"I don't want her to keep me chanel black tote bag company,"
70
Granny complained to Lina, and Lina said, "Maybe
she's lonely, Granny
Lina rather liked having MrsMurdo around--it
was a bit like having a mother thereShe wasn't anything
like Lina's own mother, who had been a dreamy,
absent-minded sort of personMurdo was
mother-like in quite a different wayShe made sure
they all ate a good breakfast in the morning--usually
potatoes with mushroom gravy and beet teaShe lined
up the vitamin pills by each person's plate and made
sure they were swallowedMurdo was
there, shoes got picked up and put away, spills were
wiped off the furniture, and Poppy always had on
clean clothesLina could relax when MrsShe knew things were taken care of
Every week, Lina--like all workers between age
twelve and age fifteen--had Thursday offOne
Thursday, as she borse gucci was standing in line at the Garn
Square market, hoping to get a bag of turnips for stew
that night, she overheard a startling conversation
between two people standing behind her
"What I wanted," said one voice, "was some paint
for my front doorIt hasn't been painted for yearsIt's
gray and peeling, horribleI heard a store over on
Night Street had someI was hoping for blue
"Blue would be nice," said the other voice wistfully
71
"But when I got there," the first voice continued,
"the man said he had no paint, never hadAll he had were a few colored pencils
Colored pencils! Lina had not seen colored pencils
in any store for agesOnce she'd had two red ones, a
blue one, and a brown oneShe'd used these for her
drawing until they were stubs too small to holdNow
she had only one plain c c purse pencil left, and it was rapidly
growing shorter
She longed to have colored pencils for her pictures
of the imaginary cityShe had a feeling it was a colorful
place, though she didn't know what its colors might
beThere were other things, of course, on which her
money would be better spentGranny's only coat was
full of holes and coming apart at the seamsBut
Granny rarely went out, Lina told herselfShe was
either at home or in her yarn shopShe didn't really
need a new coat, did she? Besides, how much could a
few pencils cost? She could probably get a coat for
Granny and some pencils
So that afternoon she set out for Night StreetShe
took Poppy with herPoppy had learned how to ride
piggyback--she wrapped her legs around Lina's
waist and gripped Lina's throat with her small, strong
fingers
On rolex chain Budloe Street, people were standing in long
lines with their bundles of laundry at the washing stations
The washers stirred the clothes in the washing
72
machines with long polesIn days past, the machines
themselves had whirled the clothes around, but not
one of them worked anymore
Lina turned up Hafter Street, where the four
streetlamps were still out and a building crew was
repairing a partly collapsed roofOrly Gordon called
out to her from high on a ladder, and Lina looked up
and wavedFarther on, she passed a woman with bits
of rope and string for sale and a man pulling a cart full
of carrots and beets to the grocery storesAt the corner,
a cluster of little children played catch with a rag ball
The streets were alive with people todayMoving fast,
Lina threaded her way among omega planet ocean watches t |

|
| In this way he gives out a great deal of grain all over the townHe gives it to anyone who asksHe's so keen to feed the people that he doesn't mind going into the poorest, darkest and dirtiest of hovelsHe doesn't mind going to places where respectable people don't usually ventureThe only thought in his head is that nobody should be allowed to starveSome people say that he's a busybody, others that he takes too much on himselfSome people go so far as to say that he's interfering with the law of karmaOthers complain that a lot of grain is being wasted, because people take more than they really needThe young man doesn't care about any of thisHe says it's better that some grain is wasted than that anyone should starve to death
One day the young man happens to pass by the old man's houseThe old man is sitting outside peacefully smoking his pipe, because it balenciaga bag isn't yet time to hand out grainHe says to the young man as he hurries past, 'You look tiredWhy don't you take it easy?' The young man replies, rather breathlessly, 'I can'tThere are still lots of people who haven't been fed' The old man shakes his head wonderingly'Let them come to you! why should you go dashing off to them?' But the young man, impatient to be on his way, says 'They're too weak to come to meThey can't even walkIf I don't go to them they'll die' 'That's too bad,' says the old man'They should have come earlier, when they were strongerIf they didn't think ahead that's their fault'
But by this time the young man is out of earshot, already on his way home for another sackThe old man rises and pins another notice beside the first oneThe notice reads: 'Rules for reading the rules'
No doubt you've already guessed the meaning of the parableThe old balenciaga first man is the Arhat, representing Southern Buddhism, and the young man is the
Bodhisattva, representing the MahayanaThe famine is the human predicament, the people of the town are all living beings, and the grain is the Dharma, the teachingJust as in principle both the old and the young man are willing to give out grain to everybody, so in principle both Southern Buddhism and the Mahayana are universal, meant for allBut in practice we find that the Theravada imposes certain conditionsTo practice Buddhism within the Theravada tradition, even today, if you're taking it all seriously, you must leave home and become a monk or nunYou must live exactly as the monks and nuns lived in India in the Buddha's timeAnd you mustn't change anythingThe Mahayana doesn't impose any such conditionsIt makes the Dharma available to people as they are and where they are, because chloe bag bay it is concerned solely with essentialsIt's concerned with getting the grain to the people, not with any particular manner in which this is to be doneThe Theravada expects people to come to it, so to speak, but the Mahayana goes out to them
This difference between the Theravada and the Mahayana goes back to the early days of Buddhist historyAbout a hundred years after the Buddha's death, his disciples disagreed about certain issues so strongly that the spiritual community was split in twoIndeed, they disagreed about the very nature of Buddhism itselfOne group of disciples held that Buddhism was simply what the Buddha had saidThe Four Noble Truths, the Noble Eightfold Path, the Twelve Links or chain of conditioned co-production, the Four Foundations of Mindfulness -- this was BuddhismBut the other group responded that this was not enoughYes, all of these chanel black handbags teachings did form part of Buddhism, but the example of the Buddha's life could not be ignoredThe Buddha's teaching revealed his wisdom, but his life revealed his compassion, and both together made up Buddhism

PARABLE 090: DREAMS, ILLUSIONS, BUBBLES, SHADOWS
An elderly Zen Master, feeling that his time would soon come, hit upon an expedient to help his chief disciple achieve a Great AwakeningHe decided to drive the younger monk out of his complacency through an elaborate plan to "frame" him as a thief in disguise
In the middle of the night, the Zen master would hide one of his valuable Buddha images and then cry "Thief, thief The younger monks would all
rush in, but there was no thief to be seenFinally, after the third time, as the chief disciple ran into his room, the old master grabbed him and threw him on the floor, "This is the tiffany silver thief |

| The flag flew above the PalaceThe King and Queen were
back thenDick had met her at lunch the other day--a thoroughly nice
womanIt matters so much to the poor, thought Clarissa, and to the
soldiersA man in bronze stood heroically on a pedestal with a gun on
her left hand side--the South African warIt matters, thought Mrs
Dalloway walking towards Buckingham PalaceThere it stood four-square,
in the broad sunshine, uncompromising, plainBut it was character, she
thought; something inborn in the race; what Indians respectedThe Queen
went to hospitals, opened bazaars--the Queen of England, thought
Clarissa, looking at the PalaceAlready at this hour a motor car passed
out at the gates; soldiers saluted; the gates were shutAnd Clarissa,
crossing the road, entered the Park, holding herself upright
June had drawn out every leaf on the treesThe mothers of Westminster

up a lady dior crumpled paper, spread it out flat and flung it awayHow horrible!
Last night at the Embassy Sir Dighton had said, 'If 1 want a fellow to
hold my horse, I have only to put up my hand' But the religious question
is far more serious than the economic, Sir Dighton had said, which she
thought extraordinarily interesting, from a man like Sir Dighton'Oh,
the country will never know what it has lost,' he had said, talking of
his own accord, about dear Jack Stewart
She mounted the little hill lightlyThe air stirred with energy
Messages were passing from the Fleet to the AdmiraltyPiccadilly and
Arlington Street and the Mall seemed to chafe the very air in the Park
and lift its leaves hotly, brilliantly, upon waves of that divine
vitality which Clarissa lovedTo ride; to dance; she had adored all
thatOr going long walks in the country, talking, about books, what to
do with one's life, for young people were amazingly priggish--oh, the
things one had said! But one had convictionMiddle age is the devil
People like Jack'll never chanel jumbo know that, she thought; for he never once
thought of death, never, they said, knew he was dyingAnd now can never
mourn--how did it go?--a head grown grey From the contagion of the
world's slow stain, have drunk their cup a round or two
beforeFrom the contagion of the world's slow stain!
She held herself upright
But how jack would have shouted! Quoting Shelley, in Piccadilly, 'You
want a pin,' he would have said'My God Clarissa! My
God Clarissa!'--she could hear him now at the Devonshire House party,
about poor Sylvia Hunt in her amber necklace and that dowdy old silk
Clarissa held herself upright for she had spoken aloud and now she was in
Piccadilly, passing the house with the slender green columns, and the
balconies; passing club windows full of newspapers; passing old Lady
Burdett-Coutts' house where the glazed white parrot used to hang; and
Devonshire House, without its gilt leopards; and Claridge's, where she
must remember Dick wanted her to leave a card on Mrs Jepson or she would
be goneRich cartier tank must Americans can be very charmingThere was St James's
Palace; like a child's game with bricks; and now--she had passed Bond
Street--she was by Hatchard's book shopThe stream was endless--endless
endlessLords, Ascot, Hurlingham--what was it? What a duck, she
thought, looking at the frontispiece of some book of memoirs spread wide
in the bow window, Sir Joshua perhaps or Romney; arch, bright, demure;
the sort of girl--like her own Elizabeth--the only real sort of girl
And there was that absurd book, Soapy Sponge, which Jim used to quote
by the yard; and Shakespeare's SonnetsShe knew them by heartPhil and
she had argued all day about the Dark Lady, and Dick had said straight
out at dinner that night that he had never heard of herReally, she had
married him for that! He had never read Shakespeare! There must be some
little cheap book she could buy for Milly--Cranford of course!
Was there ever anything so enchanting as the cow in petticoats? If only
people had that sort of humour, that sort of self-respect now, chanel logo necklace thought
Clarissa, for she remembered the broad pages; the sentences ending; the
characters--how one talked about them as if they were realFor all the
great things one must go to the past, she thoughtFrom the contagion of
the world's slow stain Fear no more the heat o' the sun
And now can never mourn, can never mourn, she repeated, her eyes straying
over the window; for it ran in her head; the test of great poetry; the
moderns had never written anything one wanted to read about death, she
thought; and turned

| The workers were angry and complained that the company ownership was unfairA terminated manager of about 45 years of age had his wife and two babies at the plant and was begging the guards to let him talk to the owners to ask if they would reconsider his terminationHe had just bought a house and was afraid of losing itThe camera focused in on his pleading for all the world to seeNeedless to say, it held my attention
I have been teaching professionally since 1984 It has been a great experience and rewardingIt is also a disturbing profession, for I have
taught thousands of individuals and I see one thing in common in all of us, myself includedWe all have tremendous potential, and we all are blessed with giftsYet, the one thing that holds all of us back is some degree of self-doubtIt is not so chanel white ceramic watch much the lack of technical information that holds us back, but more the lack of self-confidenceSome are more affected than others
Once we leave school, most of us know that it is not as much a matter of college degrees or good grades that countIn the real world outside of academics, something more than just grades is requiredI have heard it called "guts," "chutzpah," "balls," "audacity," "bravado," "cunning," "daring," "tenacity" and "brilliance This factor, whatever it is labeled, ultimately decides one's future much more than school grades
Inside each of us is one of these brave, brilliant and daring charactersThere is also the flip side of that character: people who could get down on their knees and beg if necessaryAfter a year in Vietnam, as a Marine Corps pilot, I intimately got to know both torebki louis vuitton of those characters-inside of me One is not better than the other
Yet, as a teacher, I recognized that it was excessive fear and self-doubt that were the greatest detractors of personal genius It broke my heart to see students know the answers, yet lack the courage to act on the answerOften in the real world, it's not the smart that get ahead but the bold
In my personal experience, your financial genius requires both technical knowledge as well as courageIf fear is too strong, the genius is suppressedIn my classes I strongly urge students to learn to take ?risks, to be bold, to let their genius convert that fear into power and brillianceIt works for some and just terrifies othersI have come to realize that for most people, when it comes to the subject of money, they would rather play it jumbo chanel flap bag safeI have had to field questions such as: Why take risks? Why should I bother developing my financial IQ? Why should I become financially literate?
And I answer, "Just to have more options
There are huge changes up headJust as I started with the story of the young inventor Alexander Graham Bell, in the coming years there will be more people just like himThere will be a hundred people like Bill Gates and hugely successful companies like Microsoft created every year, all over the worldAnd there also will be many more bankruptcies, layoffs and downsizing
So why bother developing your financial IQ? No one can answer that but youYet, I can tell you why I myself do it I do it because it is the most exciting time to be aliveI'd rather be welcoming change than dreading change I'd rather be excited borse fendi about making millions than worrying about not getting a raiseThis period we are in now is a most exciting time, unprecedented in our world's historyGenerations from now, people will look back at this period of time and remark at what an exciting era it must have beenIt was the death of the old and birth of the newIt was full of turmoil and it was exciting
So why bother developing your financial IQ? Because if you do, you will prosper greatlyAnd if you don't, this period of time will be a frightening oneIt will be a time of watching people move boldly forward while others cling to decaying life rings

What Torren Saw
Torren was out at the edge of the cabbage field that
day, the day the people cameHe was supposed to be fetching a couple of cabbages for DrHester to use in
the soup that night, but, as usual, he didn't see why he
shouldn't have some fun while he was at itSo he
climbed up the wind tower, which he wasn't supposed
to do because, they said, he might fall or get his head
sliced off by the big blades going round and round
The wind tower was four-sided, made of boards
nailed one above the next like the rungs of a ladder
Torren climbed the back side of it, the side that faced
the hills and not the village, so that the little group of
workers hoeing the cabbage rows wouldn't see himAt
the top, he turned around and sat on the flat place
behind the blades, which turned slowly in the idle
summer breezeHe had brought a pocketful of small
stones up with him, planning on some target practice:
he liked to try to hit the chickens that rummaged
around between the rows roxanne mulberry bag of cabbagesHe thought it
might be fun to bounce a few pebbles off the hats of
the workers, tooBut before he had even taken the
stones from his pocket, he caught sight of something
that made him stop and stare
Out beyond the cabbage field was another field,
where young tomato and corn and squash plants were
growing, and beyond that the land sloped up into a
grassy hillside dotted, at this time of year, with yellow
mustard flowersTorren saw something strange at the
top of the hill
There were bits of darkness at first?for a second
he thought maybe it was a deer, or several deer, black
ones instead of the usual light brown, but the shape
was wrong for deer, and the way these things moved
was wrong, tooHe realized very soon that he was seeing
people, a few people at first and then more and
more of themThey came up from the other side of the
hill and gathered at the top and stood there, a long line
of them against the sky, like a row of black teethThere
must have been a hundred, see by chloe bags Torren thought, or more
than a hundred
In all his life, Torren had never seen more than
three or four people at a time arrive at the village from
elsewhereAlmost always, the people who came were
roamers, passing through with a truckload of stuff
from the old towns to sellThis massing of people on
the hilltop terrified himFor a moment he couldn't
moveThen his heart started up a furious pounding,
and he scrambled down off the wind tower so fast that
he scraped his hands on the rough boards
"Someone's coming!" he shouted as he passed the
workersThey looked up, startledTorren ran at full
speed toward the low cluster of brown buildings at the
far end of the fieldHe turned up a dirt lane, his feet
raising swirls of dust, and dashed through the gate in
the wall and across the courtyard and in through the
open door, all the time yelling, "Someone's coming! Up
on the hill! Auntie Hester! Someone's coming!"
He found his aunt in the kitchen, and he grabbed
her by the waist of her pants and omega deville watch cried, "Come and see!
There's people on the hill!" His voice was so shrill and
urgent and loud that his aunt dropped the spoon into
the pot of soup she'd been stirring and hurried after
himBy the time they got outside, others from the village
were leaving their houses, too, and looking toward
the hillside
The people were coming downOver the crest of
the hill they came and kept coming, dozens of them,
more and more, like a mudslide
The people of the village crowded into the streets
"Get Mary Waters!" someone called"Where's Ben and
Wilmer? Find them, tell them to get out here!"
Torren was less frightened now that he was surrounded
by the townspeople"I saw them first," he said
to Hattie Carranza, who happened to be hurrying
along next to him"I was the one who told the news
"Is that right," said Hattie
"We won't let them do anything bad to us," said
Torren"If they do, we'll do something worse to them
Won't we?"
But she just glanced down at him with a vague
frown and didn't chanel white watch ans |

"There's some sort of odd mechanism here," he

"Here's sac hermes kelly what was in the box," said Lina, lifting the

| Minds lethargic, limbs without power, they sat in dull apathy and did nothing but sigh
After crossing that sea, in the afternoon near twilight, when the sun seemed to be setting into the ocean, a fearsome and tremendous noise aroseThe ear-splitting sound struck fear into their heartsIt sounded like the sea rising in anger, like bamboo groves crackling with fire, like thunderclaps
Suparaga, alarmed, cried out: 'Alas! Alas! You have come to the dreadful place from which no one returns, the Mare's Mouth, the mouth of the Lord of Death!'
At this, the poor merchants were stunned by the fear of deathRealizing that all hope was lost, they wept, moaned and cried aloud to Suparaga: 'You, who have the ability to help all beings, who have so often relieved those in distress, now is the time to use your power for actionWe take refuge in you, for we are sorely distressed and without any protectionThe wrathful waters are about to swallow us like a morsel of foodThe great Ocean will obey your command! Please put a stop to its terrible rage!'
Suparaga, his heart bursting with compassion, comforted the poor merchants, saying: 'I think I see a way to rescue us, but you borse replica must harness all your courage'
Suparaga then threw his robe over one shoulder, knelt on the deck of the ship, and bowing down paid homage to the TathagatasThen he said: 'You, honorable sea traders, and you, sky and ocean-dwelling gods, listen and be my witnessSince my first conscious deed, I cannot recall even one instance of having injured any living beingBy the power of this act of truth, by the strength of my store of virtuous actions, may this ship turn safely around without falling into the Mare's Mouth of death'
And so great was the power of his truth, so great was the splendor of his merit, that the current and wind changed to the opposite direction, causing the vessel to return the way it came
And the ship, filled with the sound of her merry, laughing crew, her lovely white sails spread like wings, flew over the sea, a white swan in a pure and cloudless sky

PARABLE 0138: WORLDLY AFFAIRS (IMPERMANENCE)
"Once I was staying at a hotel, waiting in a second-floor room to board the steamboat to go to KyotoIn the next room was a merchant who was counting on the abacus and making notesThe maid called, 'The large gucci bag steamboat is going to leave' As soon as he heard the boarding call, he put the abacus and notebook in his suitcase and went to the boat
"It happened that we were passengers in the same cabinWhen he entered it, he immediately withdrew his abacus and notebook from the suitcase and resumed his calculations and bookkeepingI marveled at his planning, and I reflected: if when the maid called he had thought, 'I am busy now; I will board after completing my calculations,' he would have lost the opportunity of boarding altogether
"At boarding time we should obey the callOnce in the boat, we should continue our workSuch is a wise methodSometimes I advise my friends to hear the Buddha-Dharma, and they usually say that they are busy with worldly affairs or are too young and have no time to hear the Buddha-DharmaThey don't know about the wind of impermanenceSeki: 51ff
