| He'll only be 55 when he gets out, and he will have -a passive cash flow of over $300,000 a year, more than he makes from his salary So it can be done, even if you hate losing or hate riskBut you must start early and definitely set up a retirement plan, and you should hire a financial planner you trust to guide you before investing in anything
But what if you don't have much time left or would like to retire early? How do you handle the fear of losing money?
My poor dad did nothingHe simply avoided the issue, refusing to discuss the subject
My rich dad, on the other hand, recommended that I think like a Texan "I like Texas and Texans," he used to say "In Texas, everything is biggerWhen Texans win, they win vintage chanel jewelry bigAnd when they lose, it's spectacular
"They like losing?" I asked
"That's not what I'm sayingShow me a happy loser, and I'll show you a loser," said rich dad"It's a Texan's attitude toward risk, reward and failure I'm talking aboutIt's how they handle lifeNot like most of the people around here, living like roaches when it comes to moneyRoaches terrified that someone will shine a light on themWhimpering when the grocery clerk short changes them a quarter
Rich dad went on to explain
"What I like best is the Texas attitudeThey're proud when they win, and they brag when they loseTexans have a saying, "If you're going to go broke, go bigYou don't want to admit you went broke over a duplexMost people around replica pasha cartier here are so afraid of losing, they don't have a duplex to go broke with
He constantly told Mike and me that the greatest reason for lack of financial success was because most people played it too safe "People are so afraid of losing that they lose" were his words
Fran Tarkenton, a one-time great NFL quarterback, says it still another way: "Winning means being unafraid to lose
In my own life, I've noticed that winning usually follows losingBefore I finally learned to ride a bike, I first fell down many timesI've never met a golfer who has never lost a golf ballI've never met people who have fallen in love who have never had their heart brokenAnd I've never met someone rich who has never lost money
So for vintage omega watches most people, the reason they don't win financially is because the pain of losing money is far greater than the joy of being rich Another saying in Texas is, "Everyone wants to go to Heaven, but no one wants to die Most people dream of being rich, but are terrified of losing money So they never get to Heaven
Rich dad used to tell Mike and me stories about his trips to Texas"If you really want to learn the attitude of how to handle risk, losing and failure, go to San Antonio and visit the AlamoThe Alamo is a great story of brave people who chose to fight, knowing there was no hope of success against overwhelming oddsThey chose to die instead of surrenderingIt's an inspiring story worthy of study; nonetheless, gold chanel earrings it's still a tragic military defeatThey got their butts kickedA failure if you will So how do Texans handle failure? They still shout, 'Remember the Alamo!'"
Mike and I heard this story a lotHe always told us this story when f he was about to go into a big deal and he was nervousAfter he had done all his due diligence and now it was put up or shut up, he told us this story Every time he was afraid of making a mistake, or losing money, he told us this storyIt gave him strength, for it reminded him that he could always turn a financial loss into a financial winRich dad I knew that failure would only make him stronger and smarterIt's not that! he wanted to lose; he just knew who he was and how he would take a prada handbags sale |

| "What are you boys doing?" she asked"And I don't want to hear again that it's a business secretDo something with this mess or I'm going to throw it out
Mike and I pleaded and begged, explaining that we would soon have enough and then we would begin productionWe informed her that we were waiting on a couple of neighbors to finish using up their toothpaste so we could have their tubesMom granted us a one-week extension
The date to begin production was moved upMy first partnership was already being threatened with an eviction notice from our warehouse space by my own momIt became Mike's job to tell the neighbors to quickly use up their toothpaste, chanel jumbo bag saying their dentist wanted them to brush more often anywayI began to put together the production line
One day my dad drove up with a friend to see two 9-year-old boys in the driveway with a production line operating at full speedThere was fine white powder everywhereOn a long table were small milk cartons from school, and our family's hibachi grill was glowing with red hot coals at maximum heat
Dad walked up cautiously, having to park the car at the base of the driveway, since the production line blocked the carportAs he and his friend got closer, they saw a steel pot sitting on top of the coals, with the toothpaste tubes being melted downIn those omega ladies watch days, toothpaste did not come in plastic tubesThe tubes were made of leadSo once the paint was burned off, the tubes were dropped in the small steel pot, melted until they became liquid, and with my mom's pot holders we were pouring the lead through a small hole in the top of the milk cartons
The milk cartons were filled with plaster-of-ParisThe white powder everywhere was the plaster before we mixed it with waterIn my haste, I had knocked the bag over, and the entire area look like it had been hit by a snowstormThe milk cartons were the outer containers for plaster-of-Paris molds
My dad and his friend watched as we carefully poured the molten lead chanel sac through a small hole in the top of the plaster-of-Paris cube
"Careful," my dad said
I nodded without looking up
Finally, once the pouring was through, I put the steel pot down and smiled at my dad
"What are you boys doing?" he asked with a cautious smile
"We're doing what you told me to doWe're going to be rich," I said
"Yup," said Mike, grinning and nodding his head
"And what is in those plaster molds?" dad asked"This should be a good batch
With a small hammer, I tapped at the seal that divided the cube in
halfCautiously, I pulled up the top half of the plaster mold and a lead nickel fell out
"Oh, my God!" my dad said"You're casting nickels out of gucci backpack lead
"That's right," Mike said"We doing as you told us to do
My dad's friend turned and burst into laughterMy dad smiled and shook his headAlong with a fire and a box of spent toothpaste tubes, in front of him were two little boys covered with white dust and smiling from ear to ear
He asked us to put everything down and sit with him on the front step of our houseWith a smile, he gently explained what the word "counterfeiting" meant
Our dreams were dashed"You mean this is illegal?" asked Mike in a
quivering voice
"Let them go," my dad's friend said"They might be developing a natural talent
My dad glared at him
"Yes, it is illegal," my dad said miu miu bow bag gently |

"What?"
162
"My grandmother died
"Oh!" Doon's face fell"That's so sad," he said His sympathy made tears spring to Una's eyes
Doon looked startled for a moment, and then he took
a step toward her and wrapped his arms around her
He gave her a squeeze so quick and tight that it made
her cough, and then it made her laughShe realized all
at once that Doon--thin, dark-eyed Doon with his
troublesome temper and his terrible brown jacket and
his good heart--was the person that she knew better
than anyone nowHe was her best friend
"Thanks," she said
"Let's go and louis vuitton neo cabby talk to the guard
They crossed the square and climbed the steps of
the Gathering HallSitting at the big reception desk
outside the door of the mayor's office was the assistant
guard, Barton Snode, the same one Lina had encountered
her first time hereHis
elbows were on the desk, and his chin was moving very
slowly from side to side
"Sir," said Doon, "we need to speak with you
The guard looked up
"In private," said Lina
The guard looked puzzledHis small eyes darted
back and forth"This is private," he said
"But anyone could come along," said chloe paddington handbag Doon"What
163
we have to say is secret, and very important
"Very important?" said Snode"Secret?" His face
brightenedGrunting, he raised himself up from his
chair and motioned them into a narrow hallway off to
the side of the main hall"What is it?" he saidAs they spoke, interrupting each
other to make sure they got in all the details, the
guard's eyebrows gradually lifted higher and higher
over his eyes"You saw this room?" he said"This is
true? Are you sure?" He was chewing faster now"You
mean the mayor you mean the mayor is
At that moment, a little way down the hall, a
door chanel tote openedThrough it came three more guards,
including--Lina spotted him by his beard--the chief
guardThey strode forward, talking to each other in
low voices, and as they passed, the chief guard threw a
quick glance at LinaDoes he recognize me? Lina wondered
Barton Snode finished his sentence in a husky
whisperthe mayor is stealing?"
"That's right," said Doon"We thought you should
be informed, because who else can arrest the mayor?
And once you've done that, the guards can put all the
things he's stolen back where they came from
"And then tell the city that a new mayor has omega watch replica to be
found," added Lina
Barton Snode leaned heavily against the wall
and rubbed a hand over his chinHe seemed to be
164
thinking"Something must be done," he said"This is
shocking, shocking He started back toward his desk,
and Doon and Lina followed"I will make a note," he
said, taking a pencil from the desk drawerLina
watched as he wrote slowly on a scrap of paper:
"Mayor stealing
When he'd finished, he let out a satisfied breath
"Very good," he said"Action will be taken, you may be
sure
"Good," said Doon
"Thank you," said Lina, and they turned to louis vuitton duffle bag leave |

| The
flesh under his chin bulged in and out"Who cares to
be first?"
No one movedLina stared down at the top of her
deskThere was a long silenceThen Lizzie Bisco, one
of Lina's best friends, sprang to her feet"I would like
to be first," she said in her breathless high voice
Lizzie went to stand before the mayorBecause of
her orange hair, she looked like a bright spark next to
him The mayor held out the bag with
one hand and put the other behind his back, as if to
show he would not interfere
Lizzie reached into the bag and withdrew a tightly
folded square of paperShe unfolded it carefullyLina
couldn't see the look on Lizzie's face, but she could
hear the disappointment in her cartier tank louis voice as she read out
loud: "Supply Depot clerk
"Very good," said the mayor
Lizzie trudged back to her deskLina smiled at
her, but Lizzie made a sour faceSupply Depot clerk
wasn't a bad job, but it was a dull oneThe Supply
Depot clerks sat behind a long counter, took orders
from the storekeepers of Ember, and sent the carriers
down to bring up what was wanted from the vast network
of storerooms beneath Ember's streetsThe
storerooms held supplies of every kind--canned food,
clothes, furniture, blankets, light bulbs, medicine, pots
and pans, reams of paper, soap, more light bulbs-- everything the people of Ember could possibly need
The clerks sat at their ledger books all day, gucci paolo watches recording
the orders that came in and the goods that went out
Lizzie didn't like to sit still; she would have been better
suited to something else, Lina thought--messenger,
maybe, the job Lina wanted for herselfMessengers ran
through the city all day, going everywhere, seeing
everything
"Next," said the mayor
9
This time two people stood up at once, Orly
Gordon and Chet NoamOrly quickly sat down again,
and Chet approached the mayor
"Choose, young man," the mayor saidHe unfolded his scrap of paper"Electrician's
helper," he read, and his wide face broke into a
smileLina heard someone take a quick breathShe
looked over to see Doon pressing a hand against his
mouth
You never knew, each chloe bag bay year, exactly which jobs
would be offeredSome years there were several good
jobs, like greenhouse helper, timekeeper's assistant, or
messenger, and no bad jobs at allOther years, jobs like
Pipeworks laborer, trash sifter, and mold scraper were
mixed inBut there would always be at least one or two
jobs for electrician's helperFixing the electricity was
the most important job in Ember, and more people
worked at it than at anything else
Orly Gordon was nextShe got the job of building
repair assistant, which was a good job for OrlyShe was
a strong girl and liked hard workVindie Chance was
made a greenhouse helperShe gave Lina a big grin as
she went back to her seatShe'll get to work with gucci back pack Clary,
Lina thoughtSo far no one had picked a really
bad jobPerhaps this time there would be no bad jobs
at all
The idea gave her courageBesides, she had
reached the point where the suspense was giving her a
10
stomach acheSo as Vindie sat down--even before the
mayor could say "Next"--she stood up and stepped
forward
The little bag was made of faded green material,
gathered at the top with a black stringLina hesitated a
moment, then put her hand inside and fingered the
bits of paperFeeling as if she were stepping off a high
building, she picked oneThe words were written in
black ink, in small careful printing, pipeworks laborer,
they said
"Out loud, please," the mayor chanel j12 white watch sa |

| He usually slept in a sitting position rather than lying down, and hardly rested much at allHowever, despite practicing meditation for many years, he still had not become enlightened to the WayOne day, a novice of unknown provenance sought permission to join the OrderThis novice was habitually lazy, to the point where he would often remain in bed even after the bell announcing the early prayer session had been rungInformed of this, the Master summoned him and scolded him in the following terms, 'How is it that you have joined the Order but are still so lazy as to be always lying down? Don't you remember what the rules of discipline say: 'Remaining in bed and failing to arise after hearing the bell will bring the future retribution of rebirth as a snake?' The novice replied, 'You said, Master, that I often lie down and therefore will become a snakeHow about you, who are attached to the sitting posture? You will be reborn a toadWhat can you ever hope to awaken to?'
Immediately after this exchange, the novice disappearedHowever, the Master had been awakened
As the story goes, the novice was in fact a c c purse Bodhisattva, who had assumed the appearance of a novice in order to enlighten the Master (Master Tam)
Note: "The Master picked up a brick and began grinding it with a stoneThe student asked what he was doing, and the Master replied, 'I am trying to polish this brick into a mirror' - 'But no amount of polishing will ever make a mirror out of a brick' - 'and no amount of sitting cross-legged will ever make a Buddha out of you'"

PARABLE 009: AWAKENING TO THE WAY IS NOT ENOUGH
"In T'ang Dynasty China, in a temple called Fragrant Mountain in the district of Loyang, there was a Buddhist monk named Mirror of EmptinessHe came from a destitute family, and, though diligent in his studies, was a mediocre student in his youthAs an adult, he used to compose poems, few
of which are quoted or rememberedHe would travel throughout central China seeking support from local leaders, without much resultAs soon as he would accumulate some savings he would fall ill, exhausting all his funds by the time he recoveredOnce, he travelled to a neighboring district, which at that time was struck by famineHe was thinking of reaching cc chanel logo earrings the Temple of the Western Land to eat and regain strength, but on the way, felt too hungry to go furtherHe decided to rest by a snow-covered spring, reciting verses of self-pity and despondencySuddenly, an Indian monk appeared and sat down beside himSmiling, he asked, 'Elder Master, have you already exhausted the sweet dew of distant travel?' He answered, 'I have indeed exhausted the nectar of travel; however, my name isnd I have never been a high-ranking Buddhist master' The Indian monk replied, 'Have you forgotten the time you were preaching the Lotus Sutra at the Temple of ?'-- Answer: 'For the last forty-five years, since I was born, I have always been in this vicinityI have never set foot in the capital and therefore cannot have preached at the temple you mentioned' The Indian monk answered, 'Perhaps you are starving and have forgotten all about the past' Thereupon, he took an apple as big as a fist from his bag and gave it to the famished poet, saying, 'This apple comes from my countryThose of high capacities who eat it can see the past and future clearlyThose of limited capacities can also remember events chanel j12 watches of their past lifetimes' The poet gratefully accepted the apple, ate it, and proceeded to drink the spring waterFeeling suddenly drowsy, he rested his head on the rocks and began to doze offIn an instant, he awakened and remembered his past life as a high-ranking Buddhist monk, preaching the Dharma along with fellow monks, as clearly as though everything had happened the previous dayHe wept and asked, 'Where is the Great Abbot Ch'an these days?' The Indian monk replied, 'He did not cultivate deeply enoughHe has been reborn a monk in Western Szechuan' The starving poet asked further, 'What has become of the great masters Shen and Wu?' 'Master Shen is still aliveMaster Wu once joked in front of the rock monument at the Fragrant Mountain Temple, 'If I cannot attain Enlightenment in this life, may I be reborn as a high-ranking official in the next one' As a result, he has now become a top generalOf the five monks who were close in the past, only I have managed to escape Birth and DeathThe three others are as describednd you, the fourth and last one, are still plagued by hunger in this place' The starving poet shed chanel classic bags a tear of self-pity and said: 'In my previous life, for forty long years I took only one meal a day and wore only
one robe, determined to rid myself of all mundane preoccupationsWhy is it that I have fallen so low as to go hungry today?' The Indian monk replied: 'In the past, when you occupied the Dharma seat, you used to preach many superstitions, causing the audience to doubt the DharmaIn addition, you were not entirely faultless in keeping the precepts, resulting in today's retribution' Having finished, the Indian monk took a mirror from his bowl, with flawless reflection on both sides, and said 'I cannot undo what happened in the pastHowever, If you want to know your future destiny, whether you will be rich or poor, have a long or short life, even the future ups and downs of the Dharma, just have a look in the mirror and all will be clear' The poet took the mirror and gazed into it for a long timeReturning it, he said, 'Thanks to your compassionate help, I now know causes and retribution, honor and disgrace' The Indian monk put the mirror back in his bowl, took the poet by the hand, and started to walk dior china awa |

|
| His primary concern was that he did not have the credit with the bank to buy another house, since he was so over-extendedI assured him that there were other ways to finance a property other than through the bank
We looked for a house for two weeks, a house that would fit all the criteria we were looking forThere were a lot to choose from, so the shopping was kind of funFinally, we found a 3 bedroom 2 bath home in a prime neighborhoodThe owner had been downsized and needed to sell that day because he and his family were moving to California where another job waited
He wanted $102,000, but we offered only $79,000He took it immediatelyThe home had on it what is called a non-qualifying loan, which means even a bum without a job could buy it without a banker's approvalThe owner owed $72,000 so all my friend had to come up with was $7,000, louis vuitton miroir the difference in price between what was owed and what it sold forAs soon as the owner moved, my friend put the house up for rentAfter all expenses were paid, including the mortgage, he put about $125 in his pocket each month
His plan was to keep the house for 12 years and let the mortgage get paid down faster, by applying the extra $125 to the principle each monthWe figured that in 12 years, a large portion of the mortgage would be paid off and he could possibly be clearing $800 a month by the time his first child went to collegeHe could also sell the house if it had appreciated in value
In 1994, the real estate market suddenly changed in Phoenix and he was offered $156,000 for the same house by the tenant who lived in it and loved itAgain, he asked me what I thought, and I naturally said sell, on a 1031 tax-deferred gucci faux exchange
Suddenly, he had nearly $80,000 to operate withI called another friend in Austin, Texas who then moved this tax deferred money into a mini-storage facilityWithin three months, he began receiving checks for a little less than a $1,000 a month in income which he then poured back into the college mutual fund that was now building much fasterIn 1996, the mini-warehouse sold and he received a check for nearly $330,000 as proceeds from the sale which was again rolled into a new project that would now throw off over $3,000 a month in income, again, going into the college mutual fundHe is now very confident that his goal of $400,000 will be met easily, and it only took $7,000 to start and a little financial intelligenceHis children will be able to afford the education that they want and he will then use the underlying asset, wrapped in his C louis vuitton china Corporation, to pay for his retirement As a result of this successful investment strategy he will be able to retire early
Thank you for reading this bookI hope it has provided some insights into utilizing the power of money to work for youToday, we need greater financial intelligence to simply surviveThe idea that it takes money to make money is the thinking of financially unsophisticated peopleIt does not mean that they're not intelligentThey have simply not learned the science of making money
Money is only an idea If you want more money simply change your thinkingEvery self-made person started small with an idea, then turned it into something bigThe same applies with investingIt takes only a few dollars to start and grow it into something bigI meet so many people who spend their lives chasing the big deal, or trying to mass a lot of omega planet ocean watches money to get into a big deal, but to me that is foolishToo often I have seen unsophisticated investors put their large nest egg into one deal and lose most of it rapidlyThey may have been good workers but they were not good investors
Education and wisdom about money are important I turned $5,000 cash into a $1 million dollar asset producing $5,000 a month cash flow in less than six yearsBut I started learning as a kidI encourage you to learn because it's not that hardIn fact, it's kind of easy once you get the hang of it
I think I have made my message clearIt's what is in your head that determines what is in your handsMoney is only an ideaThere is a great book called Think and Grow RichThe title is not Work Hard and Grow RichLearn to have money work hard for you and your life will be easier and happierToday, don't play it safe, play it cartier pasha watch s |

|
| A new car, a boat and a big house to impress your friends," said rich dad with a smile"Fear pushes you out the door, and desire calls to youEnticing you toward the rocks
"So what's the answer," Mike asked
"What intensifies fear and desire is ignoranceThat is why rich people with lots of money often have more fear the richer they getMoney is the carrot, the illusionIf the donkey could see the whole picture, it might rethink its choice to chase the carrot
Rich dad went on to explain that a human's life is a struggle between ignorance and illumination
He explained that once a person stops searching for information and knowledge of one's self, ignorance sets inThat struggle is a balenciaga dix motorcycle moment-to-moment decision-to learn to open or close one's mind
"Look, school is very, very importantYou go to school to learn a skill or profession so as to be a contributing member of societyEvery culture needs teachers, doctors, mechanics, artists, cooks, business people, police officers, firefighters, soldiersSchools train them so our culture can thrive and flourish," said rich dad"Unfortunately, for many people, school is the end, not the beginning
There was a long silenceI did not comprehend everything he said that dayBut as with most great teachers, whose words continue to teach for years, often long after they're gone, his words are still with me today
"I've been a little cruel black gucci bags today," said rich dadI want you to always remember this talkI want you to always think of MrsI want you always to think of the donkeyNever forget, because your two emotions, fear and desire, can lead you into life's biggest trap, if you're not aware of them controlling your thinkingTo spend your life living in fear, never exploring your dreams, is cruelTo work hard for money, thinking that money will buy you things that will make you happy is also cruelTo wake up in the middle of the night terrified about paying bills is a horrible way to liveTo live a life dictated by the size of a paycheck is not really a lifeThinking that a job will make you feel secure is lying to yourselfThat's gucci g watch cruel, and that's the trap I want you to avoid, if possibleI've seen how money runs people's livesDon't let that happen to youPlease don't let money run your life
A softball rolled under our tableRich dad picked it up and threw it back
"So what does ignorance have to do with greed and fear?" I asked
"Because it is ignorance about money that causes so much greed and so much fear," said rich dad"Let me give you some examplesA doctor, wanting more money to better provide for his family, raises his feesBy raising his fees, it makes health care more expensive for everyoneNow, it hurts the poor people the most, so poor people have worse health than those with money
"Because the doctors balenciaga designer raise their rates, the attorneys raise their ratesBecause the attorneys' rates have gone up, schoolteachers want a raise, which raises our taxes, and on and on and onSoon, there will be such a horrifying gap between the rich and the poor that chaos will break out and another great civilization will collapseGreat civilizations collapsed when the gap between the haves and havenots was too greatAmerica is on the same course, proving once again that history repeats itself, because we do not learn from historyWe only memorize historical dates and names, not the lesson
"Aren't prices supposed to go up?" I asked
"Not in an educated society with a well-run governmentPrices should actually come cartier ronde do |

| The hallway with its eight doors
seemed smaller to Lina than it had when she was a
student, and shabbierThe planks of the floor were
scuffed gray, and there was a cloud of finger smudges
around the doorknob of every door
They went into Miss Thorn's room and, out of
habit, sat at their old desks"I don't think they'll look
for us here," said Doon"If they do, we can crawl into
the paper cabinet He set his pack down next to him
on the floor
For a while they just sat there, getting their breath
backThey hadn't turned the light on, so the room was
dim--the only light came from beneath the blind over
the omega pocket watches window
"Those posters," Lina said after a whileEveryone will see them
"What will they do to us if they catch us?"
"I don't knowSomething to keep us from telling
what we knowPut us in the Prison Room, maybe
Lina ran her finger along the B carved in the desktop
It felt like a very long time since she'd last sat at
this desk"We can't hide in here forever," she said"Just until it's time for the
SingingThen when everyone is gathered in Harken
Square, we'll go and tell about the boats and the mayor
Won't we? I haven't really thought about it--I haven't
had a chance to think at all this morning
206
"But the guards mulberry leather are always there at the Singing,
standing next to the mayor," said Lina"They'd grab us
as soon as we opened our mouths
Doon's eyebrows came together in a dark lineSo what will we do?"
It was like finding yourself on a dead-end street, Lina thoughtShe stared
blankly at the things that had once been her daily
companions--the teacher's desk, the stacks of paper, The Book of the City of Ember on its special shelfThe old words ran through her head: "There is no place but
EmberEmber is the only light in the dark world She
knew now that this wasn't trueThere was someplace
else--the place where the boats would take chanel jumbo bag them
As if Doon had read her thoughts, he looked up
"Go where?" she said, though she knew right away
what he meant
"Wherever the river leads," he saidHe gestured
to the pillowcase sack"I packed up my bag this morning--I'm all readyI'm sure I have enough for
you, too
Lina felt her heart shrink a little"Go by ourselves?"
she said"Without telling anyone?"
"We will tell them Doon was on his feet nowHe
went to the cabinet and got a sheet of paper"We'll
write a note explaining everything--a note to someone
we trust, someone who'll believe us
207
"But I can't just leave," said Una"How could I
leave Poppy? chanel shopping bag And not even say goodbye to her? Not
know where I'm going, or if I'm ever coming back?
How could you go without saying goodbye to your
father?"
"Because," said Doon, "once they find the boats,
the rest of Ember will follow usIt's not as if we're
leaving them forever He strode across the room and
rummaged in Miss Thorn's desk"Who shall we write
the message to?"
Lina wasn't sure about this idea, but she couldn't,
at the moment, think of a better oneSo she said, "We
could write it to ClaryShe's seen the Instructions
She'll believe what we sayAnd she lives close by--just
up in Torrick Square

| 'I've already thrown myself into the sea,' he said, and relinquished all his attachment to lifeHe saw right through everything, won his independence, and certified to the first stage of Arhatship
This bothered the Bhiksus'How strange,' they murmured, 'the man has no good rootsWe wouldn't let him leave home, but the Buddha accepted him and now he's certified to ArhatshipPeople without good roots can't do thatSuch a contradiction in the Teaching will never doLet's go ask the Buddha'
Then they went before the Buddha, bowed reverently, and asked, 'We are basically clear-mindedHow could that old man without good roots certify to Arhatship? How can the Buddha-Dharma be so inconsistent?'
Sakyamuni Buddha said, 'As Arhats you see only the events of the past eighty thousand great aeonsMore than eighty thousand aeons ago, the old man was a firewood large gucci bag gathererOne day in the mountains he was attacked by a tiger and quickly climbed a treeThe tiger leaped and snapped his jaws, but missed

PARABLE 059: SUKHAVATI
"The Longer Amitabha Sutra which was in existence around A200, describes a discourse offered by the Buddha Sakyamuni in response to questions of his disciple AnandaSakyamuni tells the story of the Bodhisattva Dharmakara, who had for eons past been deeply moved by the suffering of sentient beings and who had determined to establish a Land of Bliss where all beings could experience emancipation from their pain In the presence of the eighty-first Buddha of the past, Lokesvararaja, Dharmakara made forty-eight vows relating to this Paradise, and promised that he would not accept Enlightenment if he could not achieve his goals When, after countless ages, Dharmakara achieved Enlightenment and became a Buddha, the conditions of his [18th] vow were fulfilled: he became the Lord of Sukhavati, the louis vuitton travel bags Western Paradise, where the faithful will be reborn in bliss, there to progress through stages of increasing awareness until they finally achieve Enlightenment (Elizabeth ten Grotenhuis, in Joji Okazaki, Pure Land Buddhist Painting, p
PARABLE 060: DELUSION
The following parable illustrates the fleeting nature of life and its alluring pleasures
"A man was forcing his way through a thick forest beset with thorns and stonesSuddenly to his great consternation, an elephant appeared and
gave chaseHe took to his heels through fear, and seeing a well, he ran to hide in itBut to his horror he saw a viper at the bottom of the wellHowever, lacking other means of escape, he jumped into the well, and clung to a thorny creeper that was growing in itLooking up, he saw two mice--a white one and black one--gnawing at the creeperOver his face there was a beehive fake birkin from which occasional drops of honey trickled
This man, foolishly unmindful of this precarious position, was greedily tasting the honeyA kind person volunteered to show him a path of escapeBut the greedy man begged to be excused till he had enjoyed himself
The thorny path is Samsara, the ocean of lifeMan's life is not a bed of rosesIt is beset with difficulties and obstacles to overcome, with opposition and unjust criticism, with attacks and insults to be borneSuch is the thorny path of life
The elephant here resembles death; the viper, old age; the creeper, birth; the two mice, night and dayThe drops of honey correspond to the fleeting sensual pleasuresThe man represents the so-called beingThe kind person represents the Buddha
Temporary material happiness is merely the gratification of some desireWhen the desired thing is gained, another desire chanel purses ar |
